ABSTRACT
External communication strategies, designed and applied properly, minimize damage to a company's image and reputation. The objective of this study was to analyze whether there were external communication strategies in the airlines GOL and TAM, including names in full, in accidents that occurred in 2006 (flight 1907 GOL) and 2007 (flight 3054 TAM). In this study, information was collected about accidents, external communication and the way in which the message was transmitted, as well as checking whether the strategies had an impact on image and reputation. In this article the methodological trajectory was applied, qualitative, descriptive, survey, content analysis with the Laurence Bardin method (2015), videos, other media and scientific publications. The results of the GOL and TAM cases revealed that, when putting into practice their communication strategies, they interfered with the companies' image before the general public. It was concluded through comparison that GOL applied crisis management strategies and made assertive decisions. Although the accident had negative repercussions, the company managed to manage the moment of crisis. TAM, on the other hand, chose to follow the guidelines of the international manual, but did not manage the situation adequately and its errors generated negative impacts on the company's image and reputation in the face of the situation. The study showed that it is essential to plan crisis management, create communication strategies and keep a trained team on alert when faced with a vulnerable situation.
